Long Island is known for its beautiful beaches, parks, restaurants, and shopping. The majority of those dwelling here go about their busy lives, rushing from here to there.
But for some, visiting a beach or shopping mall is not on their to-do list. Food, shelter, and safety are their primary concerns.
Thankfully, there is a sanctuary these folks can turn to where compassion and dignity are offered freely. At St. Patrick's Parish in Bay Shore, the Parish Social Ministry Program (PSM) stands as a vital lifeline for many in the community.

“Thank God for St. Patrick’s…they give the homeless and people a place to go, a spiritual release, a safe place to talk to people, to have good conversation, and you don’t have to worry about anyone bothering you.”

A Place To Go
For those facing homelessness or hardships, the PSM office at St. Patrick's offers more than material assistance. It offers a place to be seen, heard, and cared for. Here, individuals find a welcoming environment where basic needs like food, clothing, and resources are met with respect and compassion.
Spiritual Release
Amid the challenges of survival, finding peace can be just as essential as finding shelter. Whether through prayer, conversations with the staff, or simply the kindness of someone who listens, those who come to PSM discover a renewed sense of hope and faith.
Building True Community
One of the greatest things at the PSM at St. Patrick's is the sense of belonging it fosters. Isolation is replaced with connection, and hardship is met with solidarity. In a world that moves too fast to notice those who are hurting, the Parish Social Ministry at St. Patrick's shines brightly as a beacon of hope and mercy. As one client said, "Thank God for St. Patrick's." It reminds us that real change happens when faith meets action and when communities can come together to care for their own.
