In August, the Church’s calendar is filled with feast days of saints whose lives inspire us to live our faith with courage, charity, and joy. While each of them lived in a different time and place, their mission was the same: to bring Christ’s love to the world.
Today, we continue their mission through the work of the Church made possible in our own diocese.

St. Dominic (August 8) – Preaching the Gospel Founder of the Order of Preachers, St. Dominic devoted his life to proclaiming the truth of Christ and combating error through education and evangelization. Through faith formation programs, catechesis for children and adults, and evangelization efforts, our Church continues Dominic’s mission, forming disciples who know and love their faith.
St. Clare of Assisi (August 11) – Simplicity and Service St. Clare embraced radical poverty, simplicity, and a deep life of prayer, leading her sisters to serve the Lord with total trust. Parish outreach and Catholic Charities serve those in need, reminding us that the Gospel comes alive when we care for the poor with love and dignity.
St. Maximilian Kolbe (August 14) - St. Maximilian dedicated his life to spreading devotion to the Blessed Mother and to serving others with courage and compassion, even in the face of great personal cost. Our ministries serve those in need with that same spirit of self-giving love, offering hope and comfort to the suffering and marginalized.
St. Augustine (August 28) – Conversion and Hope From a restless and worldly youth to one of the greatest Doctors of the Church, St. Augustine’s life reminds us that no one is beyond God’s reach. Through programs that welcome back those who have been away from the Church and accompany seekers on their faith journey, the CMA helps lead souls home.
Carrying the Mission Forward
The saints remind us that holiness is not an abstract idea; it's a daily choice to love God and serve others. We take part in that same mission today. Let us be inspired by the saints of August to bring Christ’s light into the world, in our homes, parishes, and communities, so that, like them, we may hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23).
